Running a hospital is a complicated, expensive and rewarding endeavor. It is complicated because there must always be an appropriate number of staff, who also have the appropriate knowledge needed for caring for the patients. Hospital supplies can be expensive, but an adequate supply helps to ensure hospital preparedness for any patient illness. No matter how effective a hospital staff is, they can not provide appropriate patient care unless they have the appropriate hospital supplies. Every hospital must carry basic hospital supplies in order to deal with basic medical issues. Hospital equipment sometimes needs to be updated frequently depending on usage and advances in the medical field. Because there are frequent medical advances, hospital equipment needs to be updated frequently in order to provide the most up-to-date patient care available. As the medical field advances, costs to hospitals increase. However, if a hospital does not stay up to date in regards to hospital equipment, they cannot offer appropriate patient care and in turn, will lose patients to other hospitals that are more up to date. Advanced hospital equipment offers advanced medical care. However, it may be advantageous for a hospital to wait and see what results other hospitals have with new hospital equipment before they purchase it. Waiting to purchase hospital equipment has several benefits. By waiting to purchase new hospital equipment, hospitals ensure that it will provide good results and in the mean time, prices for that hospital equipment may decrease due to time passing by, as it often does with new technology. However, a hospital does not want to wait to long to make the purchase, or they will lag behind other hospitals technology.

While hospital supplies and hospital equipment can get quite expensive, they are necessary expenses. A hospital cannot treat patients appropriately without the proper medical supplies. Hospitals must stay up to date on all medical supplies so that they can offer the best and most effective patient care. A hospital must be able to treat the most complicated injuries while still being prepared to treat the most simple injury. A hospital must have supplies for anything from a cut to a loss of limb. While doctors are preparing for any medical emergency possible by educating themselves, hospital staff must also insure that those doctors have the supplies needed to treat said medical scenarios.
